Washington DC: No country, whether America or China, can ignore India.
In Washington DC, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said India wants to increase its influence in the world as one in every six people is Indian and the world cannot ignore India's economy.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman participated in the panel discussion
on 'Bretton Woods Institutions at 80: Priorities for the Next Decade' organized
by the Center for Global Development during the World Bank and International Annual
Meeting 2024 in Washington DC.
During this,
Sitharaman said that India wants to increase its influence in the world,
because one out of every six people is Indian and the world cannot ignore
India's economy. He further said that no country, be it America which is far
away or China which is very close, can ignore India.
When he was asked
how India and other large emerging markets can come forward and play a role
that will help take ownership of this process and drive the reform. He once
said that India's priority is not to impose its dominance. In the sense that we
have the largest democracy in the world, we have the largest population in the
world, but its influence has to be increased.
Sitharaman further
said that the skilled manpower that is there in India today and everywhere is
running big companies, which are there to run institutions in big countries,
developed countries.
Expressing India's
support towards multilateral institutions, the Union Minister said, I think we
have followed the policies of strategic and peaceful multilateralism
Sitharaman
stressed that multilateral institutions must strengthen themselves for the
global good. He said that shaping the future is an ambitious goal and called
for the participation of the Bretton Woods institutions in this.
